ROYAL DISTRIBUTING CUP – BARRIE, ONTARIO
ONTARIO, Barrie (January 30, 2012) –
In front of a standing-room only crowd, #115 David Joanis wins the Royal Distributing Cup! The Royal Distributing/Rockstar team couldn’t have been more proud, when at the end of the day it was one of their own team members holding the Royal Distributing Cup on the top of the Podium for the win in Sunday’s Pro Open Final.
The weekend wasn’t all about wins and podium finishes for Joanis. Racing got off to a rough start for Joanis who was leading the points in the Pro Open class going into the Barrie event, when he went down hard in the final under the lights Friday night. #93 Iain Hayden of Rockstar/OTSFF took the win that night, followed by his team-mate, #73 Lee Butler. #421 Dylan Hall of Rockstar/Royal Distributing rounded out the podium in third place. In Saturday’s racing, #93 Hayden made it a clean sweep for the day with a win in both motos and the final. #115 David Joanis recovered from Friday night and finished in second place ahead of Rockstar/Royal Distributing team-mate, #421 Dylan Hall. On Sunday afternoon all eyes were on the gleaming Royal Distributing Cup which awaited it’s victor at the finish line. #115 David Joanis and #93 Iain Hayden battled the entire race with Joanis out front. On the last lap Hayden seemed to have it all lined up to take over the lead but Joanis just wouldn’t let it happen. Joanis grabbed the win and the Royal Distributing Cup. Hayden finished in second place with #73 Lee Butler in third.
In the Pro-Lite class, #217 Sean Macaulay of First Nations Motorsports/Speedwerx Arctic Cat, rebounded strong after an injury at the last event and put himself on the top of the podium for two out of the three days. On Friday night #282 Devin Wilson of London Recreational took his first Pro-Lite win in the Open class in his first year as a Pro-Lite racer. #101 Andre Gervais (G-Force Racing) finished second ahead of #330 Rob Gavel. In the Pro-Lite Stock Final on Saturday, it was #217 Sean Macaulay who took the win in both of his motos and continued on to win the final. #219 Jamie Byers (Supertrax/Byers Equipment) finished up in second place ahead of #81 J.B. Dennis. The Pro-Lite racers pulled out their Open machines once again on Sunday and put on a spectacular show for the crowd, definitely one of the most exciting races of the weekend. At the checkered flag it was #217 Sean Macaulay grabbing his second win of the weekend. Second place went to #440 Nicholas Bowman, and third to #219 Jamie Byers.
A new addition to the National Series this year, the Sport 600 division, is one of the largest classes on the circuit. Full of young aspiring racers, qualifying for the final in the Sport 600 class on any given weekend is a victory of its own. In Barrie we saw three different winners over three separate finals. Friday night, #151 Jacob Gervais held off #382 Mitchell Shea for the win. Shea finished in second place ahead of #718 Mitchell King who took third. Saturday afternoon it was #603 Ben Holmes who grabbed the win. #382 Mitchell Shea and #718 Mitchell King would take second and third respectively. On Sunday, Mitchell King grabbed his third podium of the weekend only this time he was on the top with the win. Second place went to #828 Benjamin Vrij and third to #382 Mitchell Shea who also had made it to the podium in all three finals.
The Junior F1 Challenge returned to tour for the 2012 season. The Junior F1 Challenge was created to introduce teenagers aged 13-17 years old to the sport of Snowcross racing. The promotion provides five new racers each weekend with a FREE Snowcross ride thanks to the support from Yamaha, Polaris, Arctic Cat and the Sponsors. Participants are provided with a snowmobile, safety gear and lessons from a Pro-Lite/Pro racer prior to competing for their first time in Sunday’s Junior F1 class. Over the years we have seen many participants of the program become full fledged racers after being “hooked” on the sport from their first taste of it. At the Barrie event, three of the participants continued on to qualify for the final in the Junior F1 division. Mitchell Miller of Midhurst, under the instruction of #219 Jamie Byers; Ryan Chantler of Barrie, with #511 Jaymie McPhail instructing; and Spencer Carlson of Midhurst, with #217 Sean Macaulay as his instructor.
Racers will be off to Louiseville, Quebec this coming weekend, February 4th & 5th, for the next National stop in the series which is a CSRA/SCM event. See you there!
